As the name describes, the Skye Terrier originated on the Scottish Isle of Skye. Bred by farmers as working terriers to hunt fox, badger and otter. They have acute scenting abilities and agile, well muscled bodies enabled them to locate these vermin underground and dig them from their burrows.
Originally, the Skye Terrier had dropped-ears, although the pricked variety become more popular for show dogs. This breed was popular with Queen Victoria.
