This breed is a tough little dog, which is full of character. They were bred as ratters in the farming area of Norfolk and Suffolk (England) in the 1800's. these terriers are the smallest in the terrier group and were first developed by Mr Frank Jones of Market Harborough and Mr Jodrell Hopkins, of Trumpington, Cambridge.
The breed was further developed with strains from Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bedlington Terrier and Irish Terrier in the early part of the 20th Century. Originally recognised by the UK Kennel Club as the Norwich Terrier, a further branch of the breed evolved with dropped-ears. This variety was registered by the Kennel Club in 1964 and is known as the Norfolk Terrier.
